One of the people that I want to share a conversation over coffee with is Shane Claiborne.
To all my nonbelieving, sort-of-believing, and used-to-be-believing friends: I feel like I should begin with a confession. I am sorry that so often the biggest obstacle to God has been Christians. Christians who have had so much to say with our mouths and so little to show with our lives. I am sorry that so often we have forgotten the Christ of our Christianity.
Forgive us. Forgive us for the embarrassing things we have done in the name of God.
The word that encapsulates what I feel from this song is simple, but it works: good. I feel good all over.
The way it starts with gentle guitar harmonics to the muted strums; the ping of the bells; the looped rhythm; the steady pulse of the bass; the soothing backup vocals; the undertones of the jazz organ; the simple beat of the drums; and the dreamy timbre of the lead vocalist; all add to each other humbly, not taking any for its own glory.
But let’s not take away from what the song is saying.
If I thought love was just a word, I might feel the same way too.
But there’s so much more than that, and it’s waiting here for you.
There is a way,
there is a spark,
there is a hope that you can hold on to.
There is a lifeline come to the rescue,
just like a hand that’s waiting for you.
And if you believe in this I promise that you won’t be alone.
There is a way…

I have a clean, well lighted place in my mind.
It has a warmth that is comforting compared to the outside.
If I want to experience the heat of the summer sun on my skin it pales. If I want a cold, winter air to sear my cheeks it fades.
I wander into it because it’s a familiar place. I know how the walls curve, how the chairs feel and the floor gently slopes. I can negotiate around its details without trying.
Everything stays the way I left it.
But I know that this place isn’t where I’m meant to be.
Here’s to the journey to find that place somewhere closer to the other side.

…to have life and have it abundantly.
That’s an awesome promise.
Here’s the story. Clay needed to get his sister some shorts. He walked in (I think it was hesitantly) to Lululemon in Toronto.
I don’t think he would’ve been so hesitant if he knew what was going to happen from that day forward. He was floored when he saw the young lady help him out. You know that song by Keri Hilson? Yeah, that was him, knocked down. He gave his number to her and she took it.
She left him on the hook for a couple of days to sweat it out a little bit, then finally called him back. They hit it off.
It was fitting that they got married on the anniversary of the day they first met. Winnie even has the receipt of Clay’s purchase from that day!
It was a complete joy to have the privilege of shooting these two people and their families. Both their families have an awesome sense of humour and were all beautiful. Winnie looked fabulous and Clayton was absolutely dapper.
Congratulations you two!
